The Yoga Shala Philosophy Program
Program Director: Shannon Sati Chmelar
This program dedicated to the study of yogic theory and the historical context from which the spiritual science was formulated.
The Yoga Shala will offer opportunities to study yoga’s great spiritual texts, including The Bhagavad-Gita and The Yoga Sutras of Patanjali, in addition to the wider philosophical traditions of Samkhya, Vedanta, Hinduism and Buddhism. The analysis of philosophical scripture is a necessary study component for any student of yoga, as it provides the reasoning behind the methodology of practice. Philosophical examination clarifies the inner workings of meditative discipline and expands a student’s understanding of their own nature.
The offerings in this department are comprised of weekend workshop intensives that serve as either general introductions or progressive learning modules that unfold over a period of months. The teaching methods may include lecture, guided discussion, debate and possible writing assignments as facilitated by the instructor.
